Growing girl

Madeline rolled over again this morning, but it was in her room soon after she woke up and I did not have the camera. The rolls seem more accidental than deliberate since she only does it once and then cries when I put her back on her belly. When she gets more control over it I will be sure to get in on video.

We are in the midst of the three month growth spurt, which has put us back in the land of middle of the night feedings. Madeline has been waking up every three hours or so and the only thing she wants to do is eat. Just to make sure she has not been manipulating me into coming in, picking her up, and then letting her use me as a pacifier, I prepared a bottle to give her last night when she woke up. After going to sleep around 9, she was up around 12 and I put her to the test. She inhaled the 4 oz bottle, proving that she was indeed hungry. Jay has been at work for an exercise the past couple of days and I can't wait to find out if he thinks she looks bigger. It is great to see her grow, but I am anxious for her to get back to sleeping most of the night!

We had a visit from Aunt Allison last week, and she put her "Baby Whisperer" skills to the test in an effort to show Madeline that Mommy is not the only person that can hold her and take care of her. It seems to have worked a bit and Madeline has been better at letting her Daddy hold her without melting down. Just in time for Father's Day!

Happy baby with her Daddy!

In other news, we have decided that I am going to stay home with Madeline instead of returning to work. I am very excited about this decision, and did not even realize how much I wanted to stay home until we decided that I would. The law will always be there, but for now home is where I need to be and Mommy is my full-time job!

Madeline rolled over!

Madeline rolled over yesterday...once. I am confident she will repeat the performance, but I will be patient. She was on her tummy, watching Maverick chase his tail, and the roll came out of nowhere. It totally took me by surprise, so I was not able to capture it on camera. I got the camera ready in case she did it again. As you can see from the video, she got really close, but had a grip on her mat and did not go all the way. Now I am poised with the camera each time she is on her belly. Stay tuned!

Visiting with Grandmom

Grandmom (my mom) came to visit for about a week and spend more time with her first grandchild. Unfortunately, Madeline has decided that she is very attached to Mommy, and is not very tolerant of anyone else holding her. She seems a little bit young for this phase, but there is no telling her that. It can be very frustrating for Grandmom...and Daddy! Despite Madeline's attitude it was great to have Grandmom here. Jay and I got to go on a dinner and movie date and finally see Star Trek!

Last Sunday we took a drive to see Mount Saint Helens. It was a little cloudy (shocking) so we did not get the full view, but it was still pretty amazing. There is an interesting video as part of the exhibit and it afforded me the perfect opportunity to feed Madeline...the best way to keep a baby quiet! The dark was convenient since I completely forgot to bring the bottle I had prepared. I'm not sure Madeline truly appreciated the tour and the view, but hopefully we will get back there when she is a little bit older. It was pretty cold up on the mountain, but we took Madeline out of her stroller for some photo ops.

We have been trying to give Madeline more time on her belly, and it definitely shows. She is getting better and better at picking her head up. She is able to sit on my lap with pretty good neck control. She looks all around and really takes in her surroundings, but nothing grabs her attention like her own feet! She will stare at them for minutes at a time...and for a baby a minute is a long time!
